The primary purpose of the role is strong technical leadership and he/she significantly contributes/influences the development of strategic plans and initiatives for Philippines and Indonesia. The role will have strong engagement with cross functional stakeholders through the stage/gate process and building of formal and informal networks to deliver solutions to technical and business challenges.

He/she will manage technical professionals to deliver Meals Category South East Asia Innovation, Quality Improvement, Productivity and Business Continuity priorities, whilst maintaining responsibility of their own individual goals. This role is based in Philippines with the AMEA Meals Research Development and Quality (RDQ) Team.

The role will require some travel within South East Asian Region, to deliver business priorities and programs especially in Indonesia.

Some of the key accountabilities for this role will include (but are not limited to)

  • R&D lead supporting cross-functional project teams with large to major business impact, including multiple business partners, to develop plans to execute strategies or goals and to solve complex technical problems. May have portfolio of projects. Ensures timely execution of trials/analyses, assigned projects or functional expert service when representing RDQ at business unit project alignment meeting or business unit level meetings

      • All relevant business and functional processes are applied to every project
      • Strong stakeholder management and trust with cross-functional partners
  • Independently manages and remotely manage a team of Scientist/Engineers to execute projects to successfully deliver business-related results, (e.g. implementation of new technology, productivity, quality improvement or growth) by driving technical project implementation

      • Clear resource plans in place, resourced with appropriate skill set
      • Projects well linked to business priorities
      • Risks identified and communicated with contingency plans in place
      • Timely review and revision of plans while maintaining project deliverables
      • Timely updates, issues, hurdles identified with agreed plans to resolve with buy-in from other functions
  • Demonstrates effective development and coaching of technical know-how to those within and outside his/her team. Identifies training needs within his/her team and discuss with the manager

      • Regular 1:1's with reports to discuss projects and tasks and monthly Philippines and Indonesia Project Meeting. Ensure that technical know-how is applied to projects consistently
  • Demonstrates strong technology skills and leadership, knows who to consult regarding other technical areas and is able to leverage resources from multiple locations (e.g. external suppliers, other sites, universities, etc). Generates creative solutions to technical issues. Continuously develops the technical skills, has an overview about the business and products. Is aware of pertinent external developments.

      • Assess implications of emerging technologies and trends and applying to the current portfolio of new product and brand value optimization

      • Provides technical solutions to accelerate program development
  • Lead in the compliance of technical programs and procedures with government regulations and corporate standards for product, product safety and quality in order that product and process recommendations will deliver consumer safety and satisfaction. Establish technical documents & specifications system in assigned area. Approve technical documents & specifications for assigned projects/programs

      • Specifications comply with government and corporate guidelines
      • Allocation of resources to ensure that system is effective and maintained
      • Specifications approved in a timely manner with a minimum of revisions
  • Demonstrates strong influencing skills. Reports research results and defines subsequent steps with business partners and represents RDQ at appropriate forums at the business unit level

      • Demonstrating sound scientific knowledge and the capability to link results to business objectives
  • Effectively writes/communicates information in presentation format and in research report format.

  • Contributes to technical strategies. Aligns the analytical portfolio with business objectives. Identifies and implements appropriate new methodologies and build lab and pilot plant capabilities.

Do you have what it takes?

Bachelor of Science or Master of Science or PhD in Food Science, Engineering (Food/Chemical) or related disciplines is required. Excellent understanding of Cheese & Dairy technology and cross category specifics especially in technical aspects More than 10 years' experience in a consumer products environment, typically in a R&D and/or Quality role. He/she must also have good understanding and application of food science and technology principles relevant to the product group such as ingredient knowledge, formulation principles and process and manufacturing technologies. Excellent organizational and project management skills, ability to effectively handle complex situations and deliver results through others are necessary to be successful. People management experience, influencing-negotiating and good communication skills are vital. He/she must also have the ability to lead an RDQ team and influence a business located in another Region, and amenability to travel within SEA Region. Must be fluent in English - verbal and written, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Instant Messaging - Lync/Skype for Business and Technical Report Writing
